Practice partners and clinic management were questioning the inflated cost and lack of transparency of the company’s billing practices. Despite never having undergone an audit or producing a billing report in two years, the business manager still expressed confidence in the accuracy of all activity.

Business Development Executive, Danielle Cichon recognized an inadequacy as well as a lack of staff confidence in the business manager’s abilities. She decided to offer training and ongoing assistance as an avenue for retaining the position. However, Danielle received a refusal to her offer and therefore terminated the individual.

“I assumed direct responsibility for the area’s financial management, re-assigned a receivables specialist from the companion company to assist with billing. I initiated revenue-cycle management training for the department’s staff and a separate program for the clinic manager that resulted in my promotion to director.”

Danielle continued, “I added a bookkeeper position to fill out the team. Then, I conducted monthly meetings to keep the partners informed on progress installing the revised procedures,”

In addition to lowering operating costs by 13% and raising the professionalism of the department, Danielle shrunk the A/R from $3 million to $550,000.
