Senior Director and Technology-Business Integration Project Management Executive, Christina McGowan, was faced with a dilemma when COVID-19 quarantine restrictions forestalled continuation of the company’s traditional in-person training, forcing an immediate switch from in-person to virtual training. However, the local offices did not have the equipment needed to conduct online alternative sessions. The company also required the same level of performance from the new virtually trained employees as they did when employees were trained face-to-face.

Therefore, Christina took advantage of a different WebEx option that allowed adequate trainer-student interaction. The Senior Corporate Training Director prepared instructions on proper use, ran tests, and settled on the program as a workable solution. She also charted a plan for the curriculum change, collaborated with training-department heads to troubleshoot expected obstacles, and conferred with IT on technology issues. Christina also guided transition of classroom activities to the remote format and condensed or consolidated sections of the student manual along with other pertinent facets of the training program.

Switching to remote learning saved the company hundreds of thousands of dollars in travel expenses alone. Thanks to Christina, those gains, and proof of training-quality maintenance, caused management to continue remote and self-guided instruction after the quarantines expired.
